A new lichenized Athelia from Florida Naturalis
Jülich, W..
Several species of the genus Athelia show a close relationship with either free-living algae or algae within lichens. Although most taxa of Athelia live as saprophytes, a growing number of species is known to form basidiolichens and as such grow constantly together with algae which do not seem to be much damaged. Apart from the species which are known as parasites of algae and lichens, there are three species which live symbiotically with filamentous Cyanophyceae (Algae), viz. Athelia andina Jülich, A. epiphylla Pers., and A. phycophila Jülich. Athelia epiphylla occurs mostly as a saprophyte on a variety of substrates, whereas the other two species are only known as basidiolichens. Athelia andina and A. phycophila are devoid of clamps at every septum of...

A new name for Mabuya Polytropis occidentalis Hoogmoed, 1974 Naturalis
Hoogmoed, M.S..
In a revision of West African Mabuya species in 1974, I described Mabuya polytropis occidentalis from Ghana and Liberia. Recently Dr. R. I. Crombie kindly drew my attention to the fact that by doing so, I had created a junior homonym of Euprepes occidentalis W. Peters, 1867, currently considered a valid species of Mabuya, occurring in Southwestern Africa (Fitzsimmons, 1943). This is true and obviously due to gross negligence on my part. Therefore the West African M. polytropis occidentalis Hoogmoed, 1974 is hereby renamed M. polytropis paucisquamis, in reference to the low numbers of scales in this subspecies as compared to the nominal subspecies.

A new species of Diploglottis (Sapindaceae) and its systematic position Naturalis
Leenhouts, P.W..
Description of a new species, Diploglottis bracteata Leenh., from Queensland, Australia. Reduction of Euphorianthus (E. Malesia) to Diploglottis (NE. Australia). Discussion of the occurrence of actinomorphic and zygomorphic flowers in the Sapindaceae in nearly all tribes and even within ten genera. Discussion of the systematic position of Diploglottis bracteata: this species seems distinctly allied to and more derived than the New Caledonian genus Storthocalyx, and thus may belong to an old element of the Queensland flora allied with that of New Caledonia. On the other hand, D. bracteata is within Diploglottis closest to the East Malesian species, whereas the further Australian species are distinctly more derived. They may belong to a younger element in...

A new species of Rhododendron from New Guinea (Ericaceae) Naturalis
Kores, Paul.
The Star Mountains of New Guinea are situated at the geographic center of the Island of New Guinea extending on both sides of the Indonesian-Papua New Guinea border. Access to these mountains from either side of the border which divides the island is relatively difficult and as a result few collections have come from the area. A Dutch expedition traveled to the western Star Mountains in 1959, but ran into various difficulties and as a result did little collecting above 1500 m. In 1975 an expedition sponsored jointly by the Division of Botany, Lae, and the Rijksherbarium, Leiden, returned to the Star Mountains collecting extensively throughout the eastern half of the range. The results of this expedition include the first extensive collections of material...

A new species of Talaromyces and a discussion of some recently described taxa Naturalis
Samson, R.A.; Abdel-Fattah, H.M..
A new species of Talaromyces C. R. Benjamin, T. assiutensis, is described and illustrated. It was isolated from Egyptian soil amended with crushed buffalo hooves and incubated for five months at 35°C. T. assiutensis is characterized by white to pale yellow ascomata, small, smooth-walled to finely roughened ascospores and short biverticillate conidiophores. The taxa of Talaromyces published after 1972 are briefly discussed.

A note on Bostrychia scorpioides (Hudson) Montagne ex Kützing and B. montagnei Harvey (Rhodomelaceae, Rhodophyta) Naturalis
Sluiman, H.J..
From 1936 on E. Post has published a series of studies concerning the taxonomy, the ecology, and the geographical distribution of the algae of the so-called Bostrychia-Caloglossa association or Bostrychietum. In this association species of Bostrychia, Caloglossa, Catenella, Murrayella (all Rhodophyta) and other algal genera are involved. Though the Bostrychietum is usually found on aerial roots of mangroves in the upper part of the littoral belt in the tropics, the association is represented also by reduced numbers of species in sheltered habitats in temperate regions. In Post’s monograph on the Bostrychia-Caloglossa association (1936) the number of known species of the genus Bostrychia Montagne in De la Sagra 1842 was reduced from about 50 to 13. In later...

A penetração de luz nas águas de rios amazônicos Acta Amazonica
Muntz,W. R. A..
